La Cooperativa Multisectorial de Campesino Emprendedores met for the first time one year ago and has already obtained its legal status and developed various projects. Located in the outskirts of Chinandega, this group of friends and neighbors formed organically in order to sell their products together, access credit, and start new businesses. Since then, their most profitable project has been the production of animal feed for pigs and cows. In fact, they have perfected an extremely innovative process of fermentation that adds nutritional value to the by-products of conventional feed (mainly peanut shells). This allows them to produce highly nutritious | animal feed at a low cost and thus sell it at a more favorable price.
Although they already have several regular clients, their business remains limited by their lack of equipment. Right now, the cooperative rents its equipment at the high price of C$2500 per month and can only access it when it is not being used by its owner. Because of this limitation, the group has been unable to respond to large orders. With our investment of C$80,500, the cooperative will be able to buy its own industrial hammer mill as well as a 20 horse-power motor to run it. This will both expand their productive capacity and allow them to sell to larger clients. |
