In our first loan with this highly recommended group, we are providing financing to create a document services center in the offices of the cooperative which will generate income to help them cover administrative costs. We hope this small loan will lead to others, potentially an internet café. | |
This is a relatively new farmer's cooperative in the community of La Mora, 20 km from La Dalia, in the department of Matagalpa. In their town of 5000 people, there is a large school with approximately 600 students. In Nicaragua, since books are expensive, photocopies are the most common way of obtaining reading materials in the public schools. Currently the staff and students of the school have to travel a significant distance to make a photocopy. The cooperative | wants to buy a photocopier and take advantage of their office space to set up a document services center. We project that this business should generate a modest income stream that will help the cooperative offset administrative costs and will lay a foundation for our continued work with them. Future loans could include financing for a internet cafe, and later, potentially infrastructure related to the cooperative's main activity, which is coffee production. |
