The cooperative Crometal is a recovered factory dedicated to the production of industrial stands and scaffolding. Since La Base started working with the coop in 2005, production has soared, the number of worker-owners has doubled, and competitiveness has increased significantly. From 18 worker-owners in 2005, Crometal has increased to 35 compañeros today.
Over the course of 13 loans Crometal and La Base have together fostered a close relationship with a great deal of trust. The cooperative has grown enormously | and the types of challenges faced have changed continuously according to the scale of production.
The purpose of this particular loan is to give Crometal access to liquid funds to pay taxes (VAT and Contract Work Taxes) and services (gas and light). The checks they need to cash represent the payment for an order they handed over in the middle of December. For this work they were given checks post-dated at 2, 3, and 4 months respectively.
This will be the largest loan in La Base's history. |
